Building the Website
Page 2

Building the Website, choosing software that will be able to accomplish the tasks you need for communicating with your clients, whether it is a blog to inform, ecommerce to sell products, or even better yet a good CMS. My favorite CMS would have to be Joomla, with the ability to control all content directly on a per page basis. Any good software should allow you to control content on a per page basis considering this is how the Search Engines look at your site, not as a website but as to Rank individual pages. If your internal pages are not being ranked, you may have other issues that need to be addressed.

A Blog, of course, I suppose the top is WordPress. This started out as a way to get your opinion out there on topics, but now has evolved into much more, with the ability for on site advertising, selling with ecommerce, and some have a reputation of being News worthy. My self I believe they should have been given a dot.gossip, or dot.bull but not a dot.com. But hey I'm so old school I still use the command line to do editing. And yes it’s just my "opinion" there are many template designs out there now, allowing you to customize to your own personalized style. Of course a blog should accent or help enhance the main money maker site, unless this is your cup of tea and will be your main site. For more on the term money maker site please refer to the articles on Building you own Network. Is this not the reason we all sit with a keyboard in our laps every day.

Ecommerce: here we go selling stuff to make money. The ability to put products in the database with pictures prices and descriptions. Basically know as a shopping cart, but some thing happened a few years back, some how shopping carts began being used a full blown websites. In many respects this is a no-no, shopping carts are driven but a template menu system, thus causing great problems for a website. If you decide on software known as a shopping cart remember that’s what it is a shopping cart. Use it as you would when you enter Wal-Mart. Just as at Wal-Mart the shopping cart is useless for selecting or choosing items you prefer, but are perfect to hold items after selections and taking them to checkout for purchase. And then a Merchant Account or Pay Pal will handle the product purchase transactions for your shopping cart. It's all in the design. The biggest trap I see folks getting into is using software provided by their Internet provider, usually because it's free, one such shopping cart is OsCommerce, but I sure many reading this will know and are still wondering why their OsCommerce software won't bring in more than a few hit's a day . You'll be luck with a lot of work to fix this software to make it worthy to be used as a shopping cart much less a website. There are fixing’s out there for OsCommerce based software which will fix the duplicate content issues, and keep you from getting thrown into Google’s supplemental index. If at present you are using any OsCommerce based software Please do your self a big favor and have a look at our pages on fix’s for this software.
